Obituary by AFED Secretariat
The Africa Federation (AFED) Secretariat received with deep sorrow and sadness the news of the death of Mustafa bhai Rajabali Jaffer (famously known as Sabodo) which occurred at his home in Masaki, Dar-es-Salaam on Saturday 23rd March 2024 (12th Ramadhan 1445 A.H.), and was buried at night on the same day.
Brief Profile
During his interview with the then Editor of the Federation Samachar Munir bhai Daya, Mustafa bhai stressed that what we do for ourselves alone dies with us; what we do and have done for others and the world remains and is immortal. Mustafa bhai Sabodo in his firm belief of the importance of media, gifted cash amount to the Africa Federation Editorial Board in April 2013 and called upon the Board to continue maintaining high standard of journalism, and of the magazine – The Federation Samachar.
Community Services
Late Mustafa Bhai also supported the upgrading of the KSI Jamaat Mosque and Imambargha complex in Arusha, Renovation of the KSI Jamaat Lindi Musafarkhana, extension of the KSI Jamaat of Dar es Salaam Ladies Imambargha, Musafarkhana and construction of Sabodo Car Park block adjacent to the Mosque which also comprises of shops, warehouses and office space. On the community front he contributed funds towards the AFED Al Qaeem Housing Project in Arusha which was developed during the tenure of the then Chairman of Africa Federation Alhaj Anwarali Dharamsi, he enjoyed good rapport with Mustafa Bhai who was also a keen supporter of the Africa Federation Higher Education Program and contributed funds towards this program.
A Philanthropist
Marhum Mustafa bhai was a well-known philanthropist who contributed generously within the community and also to the wider society in Tanzania. He funded various projects in different sectors towards development of social services which include schools, hospitals, mosques, orphanages and water wells around Tanzania.
Mustafa bhai was born in Lindi on 14th May 1942 and was amongst the six siblings blessed to his parents Rajabali bhai and Sugra bai. Late Mustafa Bhai played an instrumental role during the early 1970s when Tanzania and other countries in the world faced a shortage of fuel wherein, he appealed to Iran's Supreme leader, Ayatollah Khomeini to rescue the country from the crisis, which he successfully achieved. This is a clear manifestation of his patriotism towards his country, Tanzania. His philanthropic efforts include his contributions towards the Mwalimu Nyerere Foundation, the Mtwara College of Education and the Shree Hindu Mandal Hospital. He also contributed to the government towards the relocation of its capital to Dodoma. A project close to his heart was water wells for which he contributed substantially so that Tanzanians had easy access to clean water for their daily lives.
Achievement & Awards
Mustafa bhai was bestowed the Husseini Medal in 2007 by the then Africa Federation Chairman Alhaj Ramzan Nanji at the 23rd Conference of Africa Federation held in Arusha, Tanzania for his philanthropic endeavours, generous contributions, and unwavering commitment towards the well-being of the community and the society at large.
Death
His death leaves a void not only in the family but also in Tanzania. We convey our heartfelt condolences to Marhum’s children, his siblings and all the family members. May Allah (SWT) give his family solace and strength to bear this great loss, Aameen.
